Quick Pop Quiz: "Demain" vs. "Le lendemain"
Bonjour tout le monde ! Time to test your French time-travel skills! Today, let's talk about a classic trap that trips up almost every adult learner when telling stories. Do you know the exact difference between demain and le lendemain? Why this matters for fluency: Using the wrong one in a past story instantly breaks your narrative flow for native speakers. Your turn in the comments! 1. In your own words, what is the rule here? 2. Write one original sentence with demain and one with le lendemain below! I’ll jump into the comments to check your sentences and give you personal feedback!
How to express "right now" in French
Bonjour tout le monde! I see this mistake many times. When you want to say "I am doing something right now" in French, your brain might be tempted to translate word-for-word. But French doesn't use être + verb like English does! Instead, native speakers use one simple structure to lock a verb into the present continuous moment: être en train de + infinitive verb. Here is how it works in real life: - Textbook: Je mange. (I eat / I am eating.) - Natural & Specific: Je suis en train de manger. (I am in the middle of eating right now.) - Textbook: Il travaille. (He works / He is working.) - Natural & Specific: Il est en train de travailler. (He is currently working / busy working.) - Past continuous trick: J'étais en train de dormir quand tu as appelé. (I was in the middle of sleeping when you called.) Why this matters for fluency: Using en train de instantly removes ambiguity. It signals to your listener that an action is actively happening at this exact moment, making your timeline crystal clear. Over to you! Drop a sentence in the comments using en train de to tell us what you are doing right now (or what you were doing earlier today)! I’ll pop in to give feedback and corrections. Want to master how French tenses connect in real-world conversation? We break down these exact nuances step-by-step inside our main workshops and live sessions!
Help me plan our next live class! What is your biggest French bottleneck right now?
I know I have been a bit quiet lately, but I am back and planning our upcoming content. I would love hear from you! To make sure our next live class gives you the biggest possible win, I want to know: what French concept is currently giving you the biggest headache? In the mean time, here is a quick Concept that I see needs to be clarified: The Word "Tout" Since "tout" comes up so often, here is a fast way to think about it. It changes its spelling based on whether the word after it is masculine, feminine, singular, or plural. Examples: - Tout le monde est là. (Everyone is here. Masculine singular) - J'ai travaillé toute la journée,. (I worked all day long. Feminine singular) - Tous les jours, je pratique le français. (Every day, I practice French. Masculine plural. Note that the S is silent here!) - Toutes les filles sont prêtes. (All the girls are ready. Feminine plural) Mastering these agreements immediately makes your spoken and written French look and sound far more polished. Drop a comment below and give me more examples to practice!
