Welcome
Welcome to The Family Cyber Center!!! This is the first Skool community that I have started and I look forward to the opportunity to share my experience and grow a community of like minded people wanting to stay safe online. A few house keeping rules. 1) No advertising 2) This is not a hacker community, no sharing of scripts, tools, repos, breaches, etc. 3) Keep content focused on the household (family, kids, personal, parents, pets, etc) digital safety/security. 4) We do not offer formal services at this time. No I can not reset your password, hack your ex, or diagnose your internet issue. What we can do! 1) Help you understand security concepts. 2) Suggest tools, concepts, considerations for you as you work to protect your family. 3) Build out courses/content relevant to you and your specific question/need. 4) Be an ally and provide you assurance as you navigate our complex digital world

Intro to Skool Communities!
If you're new to Skool or to this community I'd encourage you to look around the various tab at the top. Skool is driven on community interaction and content. As I put out content on YouTube I'll also be building detailed courses and empowerment tools that will be hosted in the Classroom. As the community grows I'll start to host QA and regular calls to meet everyone. If you have questions feel free to post in the community feed or DM myself/an admin directly. We'll do our best to either answer you directly, point you to a resource, or create some community content to address your concern.

Introductions!!
Please take a moment to introduce yourself! I'll go first :) My name is Thaddeus Bender, I'm a cybersecurity expert by day and single father by night. I've been in the field of physical/systems/software security for around 15 years from the military to private sector. As a parent, and friend to many other parents, I have learned to translate my cybersecurity knowledge into the family environment. I learn more every day, and that's why this Skool now exists! I hope to share and help family's from all over stay safer and be more prepared in this ever growing digital era!
Happy to join!
Thank you for accepting me into this community!
Cyber Brew: Why we fall for online scams and how to avoid them
NordVPN just published an interview about online threats which is really good! Below is a short clip of the larger article! you can read the entire article here Justina: Phishing is easily one of the most common scams and seems to never go away, probably because it works so well for scammers. Phishing happens when you get an email, a text, or even a direct message that looks legit. It might say it’s from your bank or a delivery service. But someone’s actually trying to steal your personal information, logins, or financial details. According to our research on scam experiences, receiving phishing calls and messages ranks as the second most common scam tactic — our February 2025 survey found that 39% of NordVPN users have encountered this type of attack, which is why they’re turning to various cybersecurity tools for help. How do you spot a phishing email or text message if you have no cybersecurity tools available at the moment? While bad grammar used to be a telltale sign, AI has made phishing messages much more sophisticated and convincing. Instead, ask yourself — did I expect this message? If you get a delivery notification but haven’t ordered anything, or congratulations for winning a lottery you never entered, that’s your red flag right there. Especially if the unexpected message delivers an urgent request. If there’s also a link, hover over it before clicking and see if the address matches the legitimate service that’s supposedly contacting you.
