A gentle thought on minimalism โ€” Japan vs. the U.S. ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
In the U.S., minimalism is often framed as having less:fewer clothes, fewer dishes, fewer things on the shelves. In Japan, minimalism is more about respect โ€”respect for space, for objects, and for how a home supports daily life. Rather than asking:โŒ โ€œDo I own too much?โ€ The question becomes:โœ… โ€œDoes this support the life Iโ€™m living right now?โ€ A chipped mug may stay because itโ€™s loved.A rarely used item may go because it creates visual noise or mental strain.Nothing is kept out of guilt. Nothing is removed out of trendiness. A simple practice to try this week (no decluttering required): Choose one object you use daily.Pause before using it.Notice whether it feels supportive, neutral, or draining. That awareness alone prepares you for deeper decluttering โ€” without overwhelm. More soon as we get ready for our next challenge. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿต

A gentle note on Japanese minimalism ๐Ÿƒ
In Japanese minimalism, the goal isnโ€™t to have less for the sake of less. Itโ€™s to create space so your home can breatheโ€”and so you can, too. Objects are chosen with care.Theyโ€™re respected, maintained, and given a clear place to live. When something no longer serves the household, itโ€™s released with gratitude rather than guilt. Today, as you open a drawer or clear a small surface, try approaching it with this mindset: - Does this item still have a role in my daily life? - Does it support calm, ease, or function in my home? - If not, can I thank it and let it go? Even one small area cleared with intention changes the energy of a room.Minimalism, in this sense, isnโ€™t about aestheticsโ€”itโ€™s about harmony. Take your time. Move gently.Your home notices the care you give it. ๐Ÿค Feel free to share what you worked on today or what this idea stirred for you. โ€” Mama Li
