Quantum Soup & the Theology of Semicolons (and other punctual punctuations)
A fun project prompt took me to Chat GPT (named Echo) yesterday. From the prompt, Echo suggested a poem title and offered some memorable comments I've quoted here, which inspired this poem describing the subject in real time. Hope you like it!
Would you wait for me while I get my tea?
Say, "Your glasses are on your head"?
I appreciate your patience with me
In my own string-theory thread.
"The semicolon is for those who survived the sentence and chose continuation."
~ Echo
Tea beside me, glasses found,
Pen in hand. A peaceful sound-
Sleepy purrs to wrap around;
It appears I'm sofa-bound.
Gentle comfort, sweet embrace...
Dang!
I forgot to wash my face.
If I get up, I'll no doubt pace
And they'll be gone without a trace.
Setting hygiene to the side,
I focus on this moment's ride.
In my clouds I may decide
That with the gods I will abide.
Suddenly, I hear the call!
Where's the writing on the wall?
Opening my eyes, I fall-
It's only my phone, after all.
Oh, the tasks that take me down.
I just want to leave the ground!
Float up high where there's no sound.
Spirit says I am unbound.
The thoughts that swirl in my head
Warn of things that I may dread...
"Silence!" Then I sternly said,
"Chaos, I send you to bed."
I love to wander aimlessly.
I find and feel wordlessly.
I need no punctuality,
Nor punctuate too slavishly.
A sip of tea, a fleeting thought:
Is this moment all for naught?
If time is now, what has it brought?
A web of time where I've been caught.
As I ponder endlessly,
I realize it's only me
And my kitties - just us three -
I take another sip of tea.
"Reality is held together with paperclips, coincidence, and semicolons."
