For my first 7 months in business I made NOTHING.
Kept grinding day in, day out but saw little to no progress.
Until I realized one major problem that I had...
I was severely lacking in CONSISTENCY.
I'd have some days where I'd complete all my tasks and some days where I'd fail to get even the slightest amount of tasks done
Whilst allocating 12, 14 and 16+ hours a day just to work
I started to get heavily demotivated, losing momentum and started losing motivation for it all.
I was on the verge of QUITTING.
Until I self-reflected and found out some of the core reasons...
I was inconsistent with the work -> I had a lack of motivation, drive and procrastination -> had a lack of focus, energy levels and productivity -> lack of sleep
It all came back down to this ONE issue and it finally made sense.
Now what actually CAUSES a lack of sleep in entrepreneurs though???
- Lack of efficient work
- Inconsistent schedules/routines
- Lack of life outside work
Let's get into how we can solve EACH of these:
- Lack of Efficient Work
Most of you allocate excessive hours to work
When in reality you could do that in 2 - 4 hours.
Why work for 14 hours when you could get the same done in 4?
When you allocate less time you're FORCED to work harder and be more efficient.
Here's the cycle you're currently stuck in:
- Procrastination -> staying up later to complete tasks -> lack of sleep -> lack of focus, energy -> more hours allocated to work
This is what's DESTROYING you inside and out. And what also destroyed me for a while
How do you actually fix this and get some of the BEST work of your life done?
- Work with other entrepreneurs - the competition and drive is insane
- Plan a to-do-list the night before - from highest priority task to lowest
- Wake up and get STRAIGHT to work - no morning routine
- Squint your eyes on your computer
- Have one tab open at a time
- Listen to white noise whilst working
this will make your efficiency SKYROCKET.
Pair it with waking up really early (4 - 5am) and you're gonna be a speed demon when it comes to work
2. Inconsistent Schedules/Routines
Humans are designed to be in a routine
However in the modern world we have all sorts of distractions and we do everything at different times
Which is actually DESTROYING us.
In order to have balance and progress we need to stay consistent
Here's how you develop a consistent routine:
- Plan your full day out on Google Calendar
- Plan out your ideal work/sleep schedule
- Live the calendar
I want you to LIVE off your calendar.
Constantly check it, adjust things if something needs to be adjusted
Perfect.
3. Lack of life outside work
This is the one you guys are probably struggling with the most
We spend ALL day either working, gymming or sleeping
Not doing anything else outside of that
What's the point??? You're not actually doing anything meaningful or fun with your life in the process
"Oh I need to work 14 hours a day" excuses. If you genuinely implement that efficiency advice TRUST me, you'll get all of that work done in 4 hours.
Meaning you have most of the day to do whatever you want.
In this time, I'd highly suggest you:
- Work on your skills! - Learn more sales, marketing, persuasion, communication, confidence etc
- Go to more events - run clubs, entrepreneur networking events, fun stuff
- Approach people - go out and approach people, make new friends
- Build your own popping social circle - invite those people out to do fun stuff you're doing (going to a cafe, going on a run, going out to dinner, events, hikes etc)
This will make your grind SO MUCH MORE FUN in the process
And you'll actually make more progress with doing this.
Now implement ALL of this and you're going to be incredibly consistent in your business.
You'll make progress like you never have before.
