The Rookies learning section
The Rookies started a learning section on their websites and although they don't have much right now it seems like they will be expanding with some interesting courses. They do have a Blender, ZBrush and a Houdini bootcamp already, which might be interesting for the people that were mentioning they wanted to learn those software! https://www.therookies.co/learning

Book Club!?!
We mentioned it during Friday’s hang out, but anyone interested in doing a monthly book club? Just diving into Rick Ruben‘s book now and it would make a great first session.

Photogrammetry to Blender for modifications (unless Substance would be better)
I have been challenged with a project that could be a great learning and opportunity for me. I have a friend who has brought me into help them figure out what this workflow could look like as well as if I would be interested in doing this for them as a side gig. First things first. I was unfamilar with photogrametry so I dove into that. No questions there. The shoe was made and then pulled into Meshroom to make it 3D. I was given an obj and an fbx. There are maps included that look like abstract art to me- not like unwrapped uv maps I have seen which you can decipher and modify. The files are high poly count. Seems like that would be my first step. From what I can tell, I make a duplicate and use remesh to get a low poly obj and then combind the two somehow. I need to keep the detail in the shoe and the textures etc. This is all prep for working with the file in Blender from what I can tell. I am very unfamilar with this. What they want done is: Cleaning up the shoe (This I can manage once I get to this point) - There are a couple of small pushpins on the inside of the tongue that hold it in place and the pins holding up the shoe. Please remove these.  - You may see some paper inside the shoe- is it possible to darken the inside of the shoe enough starting from under the tongue so the paper and any non-recognizable objects fade to black? I still want to see the insole but if it went dark prematurely under the tongue that's ideal. Additional Edits: (Since this file doesn't have Nodes because it wasn't actually built in 3D would all of the edits have to just be made to the shoe instead of through Nodes. Such as changing colors, textures that type of thing) Would this be better done in Substance? ) They provided me a second shoe to take the sole off of and add it to this Nike shoe. The one I need to make all of the edits to is the Nike. 1) I would like to see if you can add this logo of Blue Ribbon Sports to the shoe, replacing the swoosh (i have circled in the example)

Hello everyone
I am happy to have come across this community. I am a Compositor (Nuke) in VFX industry. Working in this field for well over 9 years now. I have always wondered if there is anything beyond working on movies/series but never tried looking into it until this difficult times. Better late than never :) I am joining this community to expand my skills and learn more about the different industries that I can step into in the 3D world. Any guidance or articles that you can share would be great.

Gpt4o
https://openai.com/index/gpt-4o-and-more-tools-to-chatgpt-free/ So, it's really begun. Just projecting how this goes into the future, integration into services, products, experiences. We've all been watching movies that show this tech working (well...actually usually it was working then it doesn't then the humans mostly die and then a hero comes out) and now that we're seeing a v1 of it, I don't know if I'm ready haha
