A few parents messaged me to ask for my opinion and recommendation because their child is in year 5, and they think it is too late. They decide it, and that's it. The competition is high, which we all agree on but I know that it is never too late for the real thing, which is learning, doing and getting ahead. And this is how I approached the 11 plus test years ago with my children.
My oldest was in Year 5 when we started the prep, and he wrote 9 or 10 tests (which I do not recommend). We started at home for the younger one earlier, without speaking about the 11 plus. It meant it was better paced and better planned. However, the stress at the end of year 5 was similar, and that was mainly because he wrote 3 tests and had about a handful of options since we had moved and the list of schools had narrowed.
It is never too late. This is what I mean when I say it. You need to approach this as an effort-led journey, not an outcome-led journey. We said, if it happens, great; if it doesn't, we will get a school that is good for the boys.
And that's what happened. Take it as a 'with or without that school' approach, and you will see that your effort will be as enjoyable as the outcome.
Succeed or Learn. We win either way.
I recommend you to join Week 2 of the free trial for Years 4 and 5. The link to register is this one here.
