Ways to Center Student Voice
🏆Lately, I’ve been sitting in a lot of meetings where adults are trying to “fix” student behavior, improve culture, or write new pledges and policies…with almost no actual student input. And every time, I’m reminded: if students aren’t a part of the solution, we’re mostly just rearranging the furniture. From a recent coaching conversation, a few simple practices stood out that really helped the teacher center student voice in a realistic, sustainable way Which way would you like to try? What would you like to add to the list?

Ways to Center Student Voice
Content Differentiation
Differentiating instruction is a powerful approach to teaching that tailors learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of students. Tiered Content: Offer tasks of varying complexity based on readiness levels. Leveled Readers: Use texts at different reading levels to match students' abilities. Learning Stations: Set up stations with different activities and materials. Flexible Grouping: Group students by readiness, interest, or learning style. Compacting: Accelerate learning for advanced students by skipping unnecessary material. Learning Contracts: Allow students to choose topics or pace their learning. Presentation Styles: Use visual, auditory, or kinesthetic methods. Scaffolding: Provide temporary support to help students understand complex concepts. Multiple Texts: Offer various texts to cater to different interests and reading levels. Interest Surveys: Use surveys to tailor content to students' interests. What have you tried? What would you like to try?
