DeepSeek just made the Claude Code setup free
DeepSeek open-sourced their agent harness last month. It's free, MIT-licensed, and it passed 200,000 GitHub stars in two weeks.
Here's why it matters 👇
Any AI coding tool is two things. The model is the brain. The harness is everything around it — the tools, the memory, the permissions, the loop that keeps it working until a job is done. With Claude Code you buy both bundled, so the Monday report you've run 40 times bills at exactly the same rate as your hardest task of the month.
The harness being free means the brain is now a setting. You build the job once with a good model, then switch the dropdown to a cheap one — or a free local one — for every repeat run after that.
The full step-by-step guide is attached to this post as an HTML file. It covers the one command that gets it running, the Settings screen where you swap models, a copy-paste prompt for a weekly CRM report, and a table of which jobs deserve the expensive brain and which never did.
Then tell me which repeating job you'd move over first 👇
