Introduction
Hello from New Jersey where we are awaiting a blizzard. I have never tried stumpwork but I did buy a stumpwork kit from RSN last year. If only I knew where I stashed it… 😁 I kind of did embroidery off and on when making things from felt, one of my other hobbies. Then I started doing embroidery for real. I did cross stitch in the early 1990s and I am trying to get back to it. I also sew - I prefer making quilted items rather than garments. Nice to meet you! (Some samples of my work.)
Introduction
Before and after (a few years later)
My first go at stump embroidery had a lot of mistakes. First I chose the wrong color felt as a base. I also didn’t understand that the edges of the felt should be slightly exposed. I thought variegated sashiko thread would look good for the leaf, and I definitely didn’t understand how the black part of the pansy looks in real life. Fast forward to a few years later and loads of flower making later, I had it down pretty well. Do you have Before and After photos? Feel free to share in the group.

Let’s Learn Stumpwork Embroidery!
Hey everyone, and future members. Thank you for joining my community. Maybe you have some experience with embroidery. Maybe you have zero experience. Maybe you’re like me who had zero experience and then decided to challenge yourself with something different than a hoop. I totally get it. Stumpwork embroidery may be challenging or intimidating at first, but I promise you it’s loads of fun and creates amazing results. It’s actually not that hard either. You can even turn your creations into wearable accessories. That’s what I did. If my cover photo impressed you, and you want to try to pick it up as well, then join my community and learn how to embroider cooler things beyond flat embroidery. Speaking of hoops though, I will also share techniques for those as well. Learn how to paint with thread and create an image that will wow your viewers. Combine it with your stumpwork embroidery skills and you will have made a piece of art. I’m looking forward to seeing your creations. As I just made this as of Feb 21, give me some time to upload my first lesson about making a Hydrangea necklace.
