Welcome!
Hello Everyone!
Hello everyone! I am an overnight police officer that emphasizes teaching and community building. I have a physics degree that has been collecting dust since I got it. I got back into recreational reading last summer when a friend finally convinced me to read the Cosmere universe. One DSNX convention, and dozens of books later, and I'm still going. I have always wanted to write stories since middle school but never really put ideas down until last year. I'm currently 11k words into my first book but have stopped to focus on universe building (wanting to make multiple series set in the same universe). Writing has been slow as we welcomed a baby girl in February, currently holding her as I type this lol. I am happy to find a place of like minds, and can't wait to share my progress with you. Don't hold back on future critiques as my brain is wired for numbers and writing is a craft I am painfully and slowly learning.

How to axe good writing in edits?
Hey all! I'm about 2/3 of the way through the story-level edit of my manuscript ... and I'm going WAY too slowly and still not making very many meaningful changes. Every time I sit down to write with an objective for that scene, I get caught up in the words that are already there, and before you know it, an hour has gone by and I haven't axed a thing. I know I'm getting too attached to the existing prose, and I keep trying to fit big plot changes into writing that's already there ... which (shocker) isn't working. Any advice on how to approach this phase of editing, and how to avoid getting too married to your existing draft?

Gotta start somewhere
A Google doc has been created. I think that’s all for today. We will do more tomorrow. Haha!
