Why do you need this?
Starting a new role can be exhilarating, yet also daunting and a bit scary...
All those thoughts running through your head:
- What if I mess up?
- What if my boss doesn't like me?
- What if I get it wrong with my team and other teams?
Whether you are looking to take the next step up in your career or need to make a positive impact to provide security for your family - making a positive impact in the first 90-100 days of a new job is important. I know as I have been through the process multiple times in my 20+ year corporate career.
In my last role change, I also changed companies, moving to a place where I did not know anyone. The stakes were high for me and I felt I had to get it right. I decided to take charge of the situation and structure it so that I was in control in the early days. Rather than just turning up and being buffeted by whatever was happening in the business in the early months, hoping my boss was good and organized and that the company had a great onboarding system. Ask around...how often does this happen? In many cases, onboarding of new hires is terrible! I have started two new roles and did not even get a laptop to work on for a week... Then my new boss was too busy to spend time with me and left me alone to figure things out. Out of frustration and desire to make a great impact with my last move, I created this template to structure the first 100 days in a new role.
What does this course show you?
It breaks down the following:
- High level objectives and plans for 30, 60, 100 day benchmarks
- Detailed plans for 30, 60, 100 days, with timings and accountabilities. This can be agreed and signed off between you and management
- How to structure review and checkpoint conversations between you and your boss/line manager, so there are "no surprises" on either side.
What are the benefits of doing this?
  • Sets positive perceptions about you from the start that you are organized and pro-active in taking charge of your career and the business 
  • Agree plans up front on what you should be working on, who you should be talking to and even what your personal development plan looks like 
  • Sets up review checkpoints to ensure you retain alignment with your boss/line manager 
  • Final agreement and sign of completion of plan between you and your boss/line manager 
  • Summary review at the end of the 100 days, setting up conversation for the coming year. 
This is a proven method I developed for use in my own career and it worked wonders in my last job change with my new company. In 20+ years, I have never gotten off to such a great start, with positive perceptions of me and reducing all the anxiety and stress that comes with trying to figure it out yourself or tentatively offer new pieces of work that are then rejected. So I am sharing this to make a positive impact in your life too.
