This is something I have been thinking about lately. Most religions tell people exactly how to worship. They have scriptures, prayers, rituals and rules. But as Deists, we believe God can be known through reason, nature and what we feel in our own hearts. So how are we supposed to worship God? Thomas Jefferson seemed to struggle with this question in his own way. He created what became known as the Jefferson Bible. He kept the teachings of Jesus that focused on love, kindness, mercy and how we should treat one another. I have always felt that the teachings of Jesus offer a beautiful way to live, even though I no longer believe any one religion has all the answers. Maybe worship is not about sitting in a church or repeating certain words. Maybe we worship God by appreciating the life we have been given, helping someone who needs us and listening to that quiet voice inside that tells us what is right. Maybe living with love, gratitude and compassion is itself a form of worship. I honestly do not know that there is one answer. That is why I would really like to hear what others here believe. How do you personally worship God? Do you pray? Spend time in nature? Follow the teachings of Jesus? Help others? Or do you simply try to live a good life? There is no right answer here. I am genuinely interested in what comes from your heart.
