Music makes the world go round!
Indeed! It does!
Without it, we wouldn’t connect the way we do. At least, that’s how I feel.
So, ladies and gentlemen of the "South Africa is Lekker" community, it gives me great joy to introduce you to ONE of my favorite songs!
𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞!
“Bayethe” is a powerful word from the Zulu nation meaning “Hail the King.”
Traditionally, it’s a royal salute — but in this song, it becomes a cry to the Almighty King, a prayer for healing not only for South Africa, but for the world.
After the success of Jerusalema, Wouter Kellerman went searching for Nomcebo Zikode — he loved her voice and dreamed of collaborating with her. He eventually connected with Zakes Bantwini, who brought them together.
The result? A song for a hurting world. A song of hope, unity, and resilience.
In Wouter’s own words:
“𝑾𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝑾𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑾𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝑩𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆!”
Released in April 2022, Bayethe arrived in a time when the world was still hurting.
And yet it carried:
➜ Integrity
➜ Emotion
➜ Unity
➜ Over 500 million YouTube views
➜ Over 300 million Spotify streams
➜ And also… a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
And now my mind is racing as there are just so many songs running through my head. :-)
