🌧️ South Africa is taking strain under extreme weather this week
Heavy rains, flooding, and storms have already claimed at least four lives between 5–7 May, with warnings at Level 6–8 across several provinces. Four lives claimed so far of which one a 12-year-old child. Aditional reports suggest more casualties as conditions worsen. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is urging everyone to stay safe. Avoid flooded roads, stay indoors where possible, and prepare for more rain through Thursday. 🚸 Schools in several areas have already been closed as a precaution, and communities are bracing for further disruptions. 🌧️ 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 (𝟳 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲) - 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹: Up to 100–200mm in 24 hours in parts of the Western and Eastern Cape. - 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀: Severe thunderstorms with hail, damaging winds, and lightning expected inland. - 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄: Possible in high-lying areas of the Eastern Cape and Western Cape. - 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁: Temperatures dropping sharply, adding risk of burst water pipes and livestock losses.
