Choosing peace over reaction
This week I experienced a meaningful breakthrough during a day out with friends. A friend of mine became upset about the choice of venue and directed her frustration towards me. Initially, I could feel myself being affected by her comments and I noticed old feelings beginning to arise.
Rather than reacting or becoming caught up in the situation, I consciously stepped back internally and recalibrated. I took a moment to reconnect with myself, observe what was happening, and remind myself not to take on what wasn't mine to carry.
Once I had centred myself again, I was able to rejoin the conversation feeling calm and unaffected. There was no need to defend myself, argue, or withdraw. I simply returned to the group and enjoyed the rest of the day.
This felt like a genuine breakthrough for me. It showed me that while I may still be triggered at times, I now have the awareness and tools to recognise it, pause, and choose a different response. Instead of being swept away by someone else's emotions, I was able to return to my own inner balance and peace.
Peace wasn't something I found after the situation changed. Peace came when I changed my response to the situation.
