A Gentleman's Dilemma
The question boils down to::: Service or Self.
Normally the answer is easy: Service.
But, this time it's a little different for me.
Tom is about 80 plus years old. A combat Marine. A cancer survivor. Married to the same woman more than 50 years.
Like me, he has watched his entire family die. Except the wife.
Like me, he has no friends left that have known him more than a short period of time.
I have been his confidant for the past year plus.
Tom's wife is close to death.
Tom wants to lean on me.
My selfishness is that I don't want to be there all the time for others as I have always been. I don't want to watch more people that I care about die.
Comments, opinions and damnations invited.
Thanks
