A different way to think about progress
One thing many people with ADHD discover over time is this:
Your nervous system matters more than your motivation.
Most advice we hear growing up is about pushing harder.
More discipline.
More willpower.
More productivity.
But if your nervous system is overloaded, exhausted, or running on stress…
No amount of motivation will fix that.
When your nervous system is supported, something interesting happens.
Your thinking gets clearer.
Your energy stabilises.
Your focus comes back more naturally.
You don’t have to fight your brain as much.
This is why learning how to regulate your nervous system can change so much.
Not perfectly.
Not instantly.
But steadily.
Because the goal isn’t forcing your brain to perform.
The goal is creating the conditions where your brain can actually function well.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is simply slow the system down. ☺️
