Wednesday Pet Nugget: Zinc - The Unsung Hero of Pet Health
Think zinc is just a trace mineral? Think again! Although pets only need small amounts of zinc, it plays a huge role in keeping their bodies functioning properly. Dogs and cats need zinc for: - Healthy skin and a shiny coat - Wound healing - A strong immune system - Normal growth and development - Reproductive health - Proper sense of smell and taste - Healthy paws and nose Signs your pet may not be getting enough zinc can include: - Dry, flaky skin - Hair loss or poor coat quality - Slow wound healing - Frequent skin infections - Crusty areas around the mouth, eyes, or paws (especially in some dog breeds) Did You Know? Some breeds, including Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, and giant breeds, can have difficulty absorbing zinc, making them more prone to zinc-responsive skin disease. Cats usually obtain adequate zinc from a balanced, meat-based diet, but they still depend on this mineral for healthy skin, immune function, and tissue repair. Natural sources of zinc include: - Beef - Lamb - Turkey - Chicken - Liver - Seafood (especially oysters, though not commonly fed to pets) - Complete, balanced commercial pet foods Too much zinc can be harmful. Never supplement without guidance, as excessive zinc can interfere with other minerals such as copper and may even become toxic.

MONDAY MYTH NUGGET
Myth: "My pet looks healthy, so they must be healthy." Not always. Dogs and cats are incredibly good at hiding illness. In the wild, showing weakness can make an animal vulnerable, so many pets don't show obvious signs until a condition has progressed. Long before symptoms appear, there may already be changes happening beneath the surface: - Microbiome imbalances - Chronic inflammation - Nutrient deficiencies - Early organ stress - Metabolic changes This is why functional testing can be so valuable. Instead of waiting for disease, it helps identify areas of dysfunction early, when nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted support may have the greatest impact. Healthy isn't just what we see on the outside, it's what's happening on the inside. At Simcha Hub of Pet Physiology, we believe education is the first step toward healthier, happier pets.

SUNDAY NUGGET - IT'S TRANSITION TIME
Big Things Are Happening Behind the Scenes! I'm excited to share that I'm moving all of my products to a brand-new Shopify store! I didn't make this decision lightly. After much thought and prayer, I decided to move my products and classes to Shopify because of Skool's new Growth Boost program, which takes a 30% share of sales made through the platform. This move isn't about leaving a community I care about, it's about protecting the value of the educational content, products, and resources I've spent years creating. I want the freedom to price my classes and products based on the value they provide, rather than feeling pressure to continually discount them. I need to place my products and educational resources where people are already in the mindset to shop. My communities will remain focused on education, support, and discussion, while Shopify will become the destination for those who are ready to invest in their health and their pet's well-being. My Shopify store will be where I can offer products, classes, magazines, and resources to people who are actively looking to purchase products. My commitment to my communities hasn't changed. Simcha Healthcare and Simcha Hub of Pet Physiology will continue to be places for learning, discussion, and support. Shopify will simply become the home for my products, courses, magazines, and educational resources, allowing me to continue investing in new content and serving both people and pets for years to come. For right now, you will still be able to find the digital magazines here because I will be spotlighting Skool members and communities in the magazines. My goal is simple, to create one convenient place where you can easily find the resources and products that support both human and pet wellness. The new store will include: - My monthly digital magazines. They will still be available here - My eBooks available on Amazon - Mirabella Cosmetics - Pet health and wellness products - Vitamins and supplements for humans - Functional health resources and educational materials.  - Exclusive courses and learning opportunities. - And much more as we continue to grow!

One Connection. Two Species. One Powerful Message
HAPPY FRIDAY! Did you know that one of the most fascinating areas of health research today is something both humans and animals have in common? It's called the gut-brain connection. The gut and brain are in constant communication through the nervous system, hormones, immune signals, and the trillions of microbes living in the digestive tract. Researchers continue to explore how gut health influences digestion, brain function, immune function, mood, behavior, and overall well-being in both people and pets. More than 2,000 years ago, Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, is credited with saying: "All disease begins in the gut." Today's research increasingly highlights the central role the gut plays in diseases, mental health, overall health and why maintaining a healthy gut is so important. That's why our August issues are dedicated to this incredible topic! Simcha Healthcare Digest: Feature Story:The Gut-Brain Connection: How Your Gut May Influence Mood, Behavior & Overall Well-Being. Simcha Pet Physiology Digest: Feature Story:The Gut-Brain Connection: How Your Pet's Gut May Influence Mood, Behavior & Overall Health. Whether you have two legs or four, understanding the gut-brain connection may change the way you think about health forever. Would you like to be featured in the upcoming issue? I'm looking for health professionals, veterinarians, businesses, innovators, nonprofits, animal rescues, animal trainers, community leaders, and inspiring individuals who are making a difference. Thursday Nugget: Is "Enough" Really Enough?
When it comes to your cat's health, "meeting the minimum" may not always be the same as thriving. Taurine is an essential nutrient that cats must get from their diet. Without enough, they can develop serious heart and eye diseases. Commercial cat foods are formulated to meet established taurine minimum requirements, but researchers continue to explore what optimal nutrition looks like beyond simply preventing deficiency. Then there's AIM (Apoptosis Inhibitor of Macrophages) - a naturally occurring protein that acts like the kidneys' cleanup crew. In most animals, AIM helps remove damaged cells after kidney injury. Cats, however, have a unique form of AIM that doesn't separate efficiently from another blood protein, limiting its ability to reach injured kidneys. BECAUSE Cats have a unique biological problem. Their AIM protein stays tightly attached to another blood protein called IgM. Because it can't detach, AIM never reaches the damaged kidney where it's needed. The result is: - Dead cells accumulate. - Tubules become clogged. - Inflammation continues. - Kidney damage progresses. Scientists believe this may help explain why chronic kidney disease is so common in cats and are actively researching AIM as a potential future therapy. Researchers believe this defect may help explain why chronic kidney disease (CKD) is so common in older cats. The takeaway? Taurine and AIM are not the same thing, but they both remind us of an important lesson: Good health isn't just about avoiding disease. It's about understanding how the body functions and giving it the best opportunity to optimally thrive. At Simcha Hub of Pet Physiology, I'm committed to exploring the science behind pet health, from essential nutrition to groundbreaking discoveries that may shape the future of feline medicine. Question of the Day: If science could help cats repair their kidneys instead of only slowing kidney disease, would you want that treatment available?
