Late in the season, we ask for more focus. More precision. More intentionality.
If we want our players to be dialed in, it has to start with how we communicate.
One principle that matters all year, but especially right now, is this...
🗣️ SPEAK IN SOLUTIONS.
Most of us are fixers - we see a mistake and we react.
Don’t do that. Don’t go there. Don’t hold it.
The issue is simple - players picture what you say.
- When you coach the “don’t,” they often visualize the mistake.
- And under pressure, that’s what tends to show up.
🔁 Flip the language - instead of telling players what to avoid, tell them exactly what to do.
❌ Not “don’t go to the corner.”
✅️ But “bring it through the middle.”
❌ Not “don’t catch and hold.”
✅️ But “go into your catch”
When players can picture the solution, they’re more likely to execute it when it matters.
