I’m coaching novice players who are inexperienced with M2M concepts like help side, switching and the like. We’re doing okay as coaches addressing those deficiencies. We had great success last night with the defence, but we still have some glaring opportunities to improve.
Our struggle is finding a consistent and coherent way to help the Nail and Eraser find checks in the half court. Our Nail has a tendency to play a sort of 1 man zone at the top of the key and when they do mark a player more times than not it’s an error (already guarded, leaves help, tries to guard more than one person in a possession etc. )
Our Erasers also struggle, but are getting better as they usually find someone on the block.
Do you have any suggestions for a methodology we can have our players (Nail and Eraser) use to determine their checks, possession to possession?
The Nails are also ‘stuck’ at the foul line. When opponents bring a fourth player back to deal with the lock, gap and Wolf, our Nails stay passive on the nail. Any guidelines, phrases, drills that can tap into a more aggressive mindset and get them hunting more passes?
