Hey chaps, I thought I’d share a solution I came up with recently and wondered if anyone else goes about it a different way.
Problem: parasitic draw where computers shutdown to 40mA after 15mins but I suspected they were starting up later on.
Solution: Using a Victron SmartShunt 300A to broadcast Bluetooth beacon signals. These signals are then picked up by my remote ESP32 and then stored in Home Assistant/Graphana.
For anyone new to the smart home stuff, the easiest way you can do this is to install Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi and use its built-in Bluetooth (as long as it’s near the car).
Another advantage is you can move around the car whilst viewing the current draw and voltage in real time (1s updates) via the VictronConnect phone app.
It measures down to 1ma so ideal for this sort of thing.
I tracked a drain in my Ford Galaxy to an Android canbus decoder.
Hopefully this helps someone. Let me know if you have any other approaches you use.
