My first business I loved, but boy did I leave so much money on the table as in millions. I was obsessed with the customer being happy. I personally replied to every single email, every forum post. I would charge small one time fee to buy a course, but then way over delivered as was obsessed with them being happy. They had a forum and I would email back and forth with some to help them hundreds of times. I was nowhere in 'the game', but I was getting paid and loved what I did. All I had to do was make some super easy tweaks. Tweaks like changing to monthly recurring pricing (just this skyrockets sale multiple), offer high ticket products - that delivered and members who bought loved. Offer something like a 10k group limited to 20 that have their own forum and we take weekly calls together. That would have been sold out instantly and no one would leave and these people would not even notice 10k going out. Just letting them meet 19 others playing at the high end pays for itself. 19 instant new high value contacts who meet and chat with every week. No brainer. I would be doing the same hours with both models, in fact often less, but this model makes people even happier and it clears 300k a month recurring. I learned so much selling that business. I walked away and was happy but really, really worn out. It was not until a year later I realised the millions I left on the table and how I had been taken to school by pros who bought it. Two days extra work setting it up and same hours, but at selling a 300k/month recurring business all managed is a very solid sale price. Many millions. It is as plain as nose on my face now, but then I had no idea. I went back and analysed every word, analysed every phone call, email etc how the buyers spoke, the cadence they used and how they cleverly structured the deal so I walked away feeling happy for pennies. I then studied the business that bought mine and looked at everything and how they did it etc etc. If you are going to pay millions for a mistake, you may as well learn from it.
