Welcome.
Welcome to Costumes and Combat, a page where I will be sharing everything I have learned in years on set for film and tv productions, however, unlike all too many folk I am aware that I am not in fact the fount of all knowledge and so will be bringing in friends and colleagues every month to share their experiences and insights. Why not drop a note here, let me know which aspects of film making you want to know more about and where you're at in your career? Every note that you leave will help to make this page more focused and interactive, filled with the answers to your questions.
Real Costumes
Rehearsal times: One of the things I sometimes struggle to get directors, especially new directors, to grasp is the importance of allowing time for your actors to acclimatise to their costumes. Not just for fight scenes (though that is pretty vital) but for every day scenes as well: to me and thee it's a costume, but to your characters it's their normal, every day, clothes. If you want to sell the world your film is set in you can't have characters tripping over their own clothes! The Mandalorian’s Biggest Costume Mistake? - YouTube

Interview, part one
As a way of introducing myself to you all here is the first part of an interview I did with up and coming Director Ryan Gary. The interview focuses mainly on work we did together but also ranges out in to areas of film making that relate to our work.
