April Functional Fitness Challenge
April is national k9 fitness month; but we’re moving beyond the "5K" and the "Fit-for-Fun" clichés. We aren’t just counting miles—we’re counting novelty. Welcome to The 30-Day Functional Fitness Challenge. 30 Days. 30 Surfaces. 1 Smarter Dog. 🐕🗺️ Most dogs walk thousands of miles on flat pavement, never truly "tuning in" to their own bodies. This month, we’re changing that. We’ve designed a challenge that fits into your daily walk, requires zero special equipment, and is achievable for every dog—from the senior soul to the high-energy athlete. The Mission Each week, we’ll give you a Targeted Movement to focus on. Your goal? Perform that movement on 7 different surfaces throughout the week. We’ve provided a list of suggestions to get you started, but we want you to get creative! Whether it’s a fallen log in the woods, a unique urban texture, or a DIY setup in your living room—find your own "gym" wherever you are. This is about having fun, being curious, and exploring the world with your dog. Adapt each 'challenge' to your level, your environment and your dog! The "Confidence Bonus" 🧠✨ There is a profound link between physical stability and emotional security. As your dog masters these movements, their body awareness (proprioception) increases. When a dog knows exactly where their feet are and how to navigate "tricky" terrain, their environmental confidence skyrockets. A dog that is physically sure-footed is a dog that is mentally resilient. How to Participate 1. Sign up; get your sheet. 2. Get out and get creative! Use our suggestions or scout your own unique terrain. 3. Execute the Move: Perform the week's targeted movement. 4. Share the Journey: Post a photo or video of your dog’s "Surface of the Day" below! 5. Complete the 30 days, and earn some bling to commemorate the challenge. Medals will be given out at the end of the month. Stop walking on autopilot. Start walking with purpose.

🍀 ARCHITECT OF LUCK: The March Challenge is Here! 🍀
We’ve all heard it. You’re out with your dog, they perform a flawless settle or a crisp recall, and a passerby sighs, "You're so lucky to have a dog like that." Newsflash: It isn't luck. Reliable behavior isn't a roll of the dice; it’s the result of clear architecture. It’s built through consistent communication, intentional expectations, and teaching your dog how to navigate a human world with confidence. This month, we’re debunking the "luck" myth and showing exactly how that "magic" is made. The Challenge: The Four-Leaf Clover We’ve broken down the month into four pillars of training. To complete the clover, you’ll tackle 7 specific tasks for each "leaf": 1. Composure (The Settle): Building an "off-switch" that works anywhere—from your living room to a busy sidewalk. 2. Connection (The Check-In): Ensuring your dog chooses you over the environment, every single time. 3. Clarity (The Manners): Polishing the "show-off" skills that make public outings seamless. 4. Confidence (The Show-Off): Generalizing your training so your dog can handle the "hard stuff" with ease. Skoolers get serious discounts on all our challenges! You can play along for free, and if you want to ribbon or medal at the end, just cover the cost of it! :) https://reachk9.com/product/march-challenge-…ct-of-luck-skool/ That "perfect dog" doesn't just happen. It is built, one repetition at a time. Let’s get to work. #ArchitectOfLuck #DogTraining #ItsNotLuck #MarchChallenge #TrainingIsCommunication

Distance...?
Gah! I can't even post on time for one week! Realizing today is monday, and I intended to post on Sundays- i thought I'd throw something together quick. Buuut... training with no plan and just a very vague concept does not result in a very pretty video! :p For many dogs, working at a distance from the handler presents a myriad of challenges. We condition our dogs to be close to us, to rely on us- so when we ask them to move away from us, its confusing. We see dogs creeping forward on distance cues, slowing down on send-outs. And just generally being anxious when they're more than a few feet from us. Last week we did go arounds as a precursor to distance, so this week I thought a distance challenge would be appropriate. For my own dogs, they know "Go" before any cue means 'go do the thing over there'. Im only working around 8-10' away, and, as I said in the beginning- its a very sloppy video. Its hard for me to not close the distance to help, and to rely on my own body language to communicate distance. I do step in a few times when I see him get too frustrated. There are a bunch of things I'd have done differently if I'd thought that far ahead.. So go ahead- do better than me- and post your videos! Questions or comments always welcomed. :)

Distance...?
Struggles with Spins!
I *finally* found a few minutes to check our foundations for spins/wraps. What I've learned; 1) Kid has way too much energy at 6am 2) I've focused on one direction much more than the other 3) im inadvertently cueing to my front instead of to my side (hand/reward placement) 4) He does actually understand my distance cue "Go" (if there are two things to go around- "around" means the closest, "go around" means the farthest) 5) I need to slow everything down and work on precision 6) I need to work on adding distance to his spins If you watch closely, when im trying to get him to spin clockwise, he gets super frustrated and mouths my arm. He learned that from me. Its his way of telling me to just "stop moving for a sec and think". Its the same thing I did to him just before, when he was all over the place and I ask/tell him to just stop. We need to pause and regroup. I find it interesting that he recognizes when I ask to stop and regroup and that hes figured out a way to mirror the same thing and ask me to stop and breath too. Teamwork/Relationship at its finest. 😀❤️
Struggles with Spins!
Hey! What's this?
If you're paying attention - you'll notice a new channel just popped up! The Weekly Challenge will be a specific goal to work on. Whatever level you're at, wherever you are - this will [hopefully] give you a focus point for the week. (of course, that doesnt mean you can't work on anything else... im just hoping to provide a little direction) If im being 100% honest - im also hoping y'all will keep me on task too! The challenges could be anything; training skills, grooming, etc. If you have any suggestions of topics you want to make sure make the list - send them my way! :) I am planning on posting on Sundays... Since i have a 'Tricks for Better Obedience' class coming up this week; I thought it made sense to make this weeks challenge some of the tricks you'll need for class. Specifically; you'll need a spin (left and right) and a Send Around (left and right). I have some older videos of these skills - but in the spirit of actually training and working my dogs, im going to film new ones tomorrow. Feel free to post before I do though! Don't forget - you can also ask any questions you might have. We're here to help!
