April Functional Fitness Challenge
April is national k9 fitness month; but we’re moving beyond the "5K" and the "Fit-for-Fun" clichés. We aren’t just counting miles—we’re counting novelty. Welcome to The 30-Day Functional Fitness Challenge. 30 Days. 30 Surfaces. 1 Smarter Dog. 🐕🗺️ Most dogs walk thousands of miles on flat pavement, never truly "tuning in" to their own bodies. This month, we’re changing that. We’ve designed a challenge that fits into your daily walk, requires zero special equipment, and is achievable for every dog—from the senior soul to the high-energy athlete. The Mission Each week, we’ll give you a Targeted Movement to focus on. Your goal? Perform that movement on 7 different surfaces throughout the week. We’ve provided a list of suggestions to get you started, but we want you to get creative! Whether it’s a fallen log in the woods, a unique urban texture, or a DIY setup in your living room—find your own "gym" wherever you are. This is about having fun, being curious, and exploring the world with your dog. Adapt each 'challenge' to your level, your environment and your dog! The "Confidence Bonus" 🧠✨ There is a profound link between physical stability and emotional security. As your dog masters these movements, their body awareness (proprioception) increases. When a dog knows exactly where their feet are and how to navigate "tricky" terrain, their environmental confidence skyrockets. A dog that is physically sure-footed is a dog that is mentally resilient. How to Participate 1. Sign up; get your sheet. 2. Get out and get creative! Use our suggestions or scout your own unique terrain. 3. Execute the Move: Perform the week's targeted movement. 4. Share the Journey: Post a photo or video of your dog’s "Surface of the Day" below! 5. Complete the 30 days, and earn some bling to commemorate the challenge. Medals will be given out at the end of the month. Stop walking on autopilot. Start walking with purpose.

Doorway manners
...I should probably call it "threshold manners".. doesnt matter if its a building door, crate door, car door, gate, property boundary, etc... There will probably be a much more in depth post on FB in the future. But, I wanted to post my thoughts for y'all here first! Doors, and access in general, are such a huge issue. Its not just good manners, its safety, its security. A dog bolting out a door could end up costing the dog its life. And more and more, im seeing dogs coming in with zero respect for boundaries. Not even a glance at the handler before pushing through. Teach your dog some basic control. You shouldn't have to say sit at every threshold- they should be thinking on their own. If you need instructions on teaching it- theres an article or two under the training tips on my website. Video 1: no cue. No stay. No wait. Nothing. Just control and education that you dont pass a gate without permission Video 2: in the first video, they were right there. You could question whether I gave a stern look, or hand cue off camera (i didnt). What happens when they discover the open gate and im 30' down the driveway? Nothing. Nothing happens. They wait.
