In celebration of the 27th anniversary of the coining of the word #smahoo, which stands for Self Motivation And Healing Ourselves Online, I am thrilled to reflect on its journey since its inception in November 1997 in the vibrant city of Kingston, Jamaica. Recently, just three weeks ago, we introduced the innovative SuperAPP smahooSPAexperience, designed to empower users on their wellness journeys.
As I acknowledge the profound intent and significance behind the word #smahoo, I am excited to officially declare that it shall now stand as a verb in the English language. This designation highlights its relevance in promoting ME.WELLness hygiene for mental health, illustrating the importance of taking care of one's mental state. The concept focuses on fostering the ability to adaptively respond to life's challenges through the psychological mechanisms of Flight, Fight, Freeze, or Fawn, providing individuals with the tools they need to navigate their emotional landscapes with resilience and grace.
