"THERE YA GO!"
Happy Wednesday all!!!
Today I have a question for you. ...Why is it that some people, especially those in the southern United States, say: "There ya go!" in response to almost anything you say?
I know you've heard it. You may have even said it. Chances are, when you said it, you were quite surprised at yourself for saying it. You know that phrase..."There ya go!"
That seems to be the common three-word answer to just about anything anyone says. I've only heard it in the U. S., and more often in the southern states than the north. There ya go! It's kind of a says - all, do - all, fix - all kind of phrase. I once overheard this exchange at a funeral; "He sure looks good for a dead guy!" "There ya go!" Once I heard a person pour her heart out about an awful situation that had occurred recently in her family. The result was, a Brother-In-Law in jail for at least two years, and the woman's sister and three children have to move in with her. The other person's attempt at a compassionate response..."Well, There ya go!"
Could it be that the words, "There ya go!" are just a way of saying: "I have no resonable, practical or helpful advise to give you, so..."There ya go!" Or is it intended to be, in some way, a finite conclusion to a discussion that is either too personal or perhaps too confusing for the listener to continue?
Either way, I don't understand it! Wish I did. Well, "There ya go!"
