Good morning,
I’m bringing this reminder back because it’s always timely—especially around the holidays. These weeks often come with awkward pay periods, and a little intentional work now can save you a lot of stress a few weeks from today.
One thing I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) is that peace doesn’t come from hoping it all works out—it comes from planning and trusting God with what’s already in our hands.
Here are a few practical ways to stay grounded:
If you’re able, go ahead and take care of your mortgage or other big bills now. It helps remove the temptation to use that money elsewhere and brings clarity to what you actually have left.
- Delay spending until your regular pay date.
Even when it feels uncomfortable, stick to your plan. The longer you can hold off on dipping into this check, the more breathing room you create for yourself.
- Use cash for essentials.
Cash creates a natural pause. When you’re not swiping, you’re more aware of what you’re spending—and that awareness matters.
One area that has really helped our family this year is sticking to our grocery budget. If that’s a challenge for you too, be sure to check out the video I shared on staying on track at the grocery store. It’s been a simple but powerful shift for us.
And don’t keep this to yourself—share it with your favorite coworker. I’m sure you’ve already talked about it.
If you’re in K–12 or Higher Ed, enjoy your winter break. You’ve earned it.
