How do you make new clients actually want to train with you, instead of just nodding and disappearing? Here's my straight up process, no fluff. First, before you even start talking, do 60 seconds of deep breathing. Calm yourself down. People feel your energy, and if you're jittery or distracted, they won’t feel safe opening up to you. You want them comfortable, so you need to be comfortable first. Now, don’t just pitch your services out the gate. Ask better questions. Try leading with: “What makes you nervous about training here?” Go a layer deeper: “What is it about that that feels unsettling?” Listen, really listen. Hold eye contact, shut up, don’t interrupt. Let them get it all out. Next, echo back in their own words what you heard. “So you’re worried about hurting your back with weights, and classes aren’t really working for you?” Don’t paraphrase, use their words. That way, they feel truly understood. Then, ask one question deeper: “What are you really afraid you’ll miss out on if this doesn’t change?” Let them feel their own challenge. They’ll tell you about wanting to play with kids, hike, surf, whatever. Sit with them in that, don’t rush to fix. Finally, acknowledge how far they’ve come, let them know you’ll start slow and safe, and make it a two-way street. “I’ll meet you where you’re at, and you tell me if anything feels off, deal?” Do this, and when it’s time to talk business, they’re way more likely to say yes. You didn’t sell, you made them feel seen and safe. That’s the move. That’s it for today. Questions? Drop them
