I've been doing a deep dive. We know from the clinical trials that the so-called "fat jabs" are remarkably effective in the short term weight loss. Ditto we know that the weight piles back on rapidly when you stop using them. So of course Big Pharma says we should be on them for life.
But here's the best evidence I can find for there long-term effectiveness in the real world:
For every 100 adults with overweight/obesity who start a GLP-1/GIP agent, perhaps 20–30 will still have clinically significant maintained weight loss at 2 years, around 10–15 at 5 years, and probably fewer than 10 at 10 years under current real-world conditions.
Its a bit of an extrapolation because there are NO long-term studies but the bottom line is that only 1 in 10 people benefit in 10 years. WHY? Because, over time, most people stop using them for a whole variety of reasons.
I'll leave you to draw your own conclusion about the effectiveness after 20, 30 or maybe 50 years!!
