Just Give Me 5 minutes
People seem surprised, when I tell them I’m 69. And I accept there are reasons that I do look younger than most men my age. One of the reasons, is that I’ve always had a targeted accomplishment to work towards. One year, it was taking first place in the Highland Games (you know, the Scottish games where we toss around heavy things like telephone poles…lol). The key to accomplishing that was 1. Training with great coaches and other athletes. 2. A specific date. Which was easy, because the Highland Games that are actually called The Highland Games (because of the city that hosts them), is always scheduled a year ahead. The added benefit was that I got to meet a whole new community of people that not only cheered me on; but they were also willing victims for my awful grandpa jokes. Okay, maybe more kind than willing…lol. I want to suggest having a reason for working out. More than the, “I want to look good “ reason. Something more specific. Now, it could be “I want to fit into a size “X” outfit to look good for my reunion, or an upcoming wedding”. I have an overarching goal of setting records in the 50M and 100M (maybe, even the Long Jump. I am still a bit delusional 😊). I have a shorter term goal of being ready for the upcoming ski season. Having accountability partners is also a great aid in accomplishing your goals. That’s what makes the VIP option of Group Coaching so valuable. You have three other people who are there to cheer you on, encourage you, and inspire you. Lastly (today), the strategy of “Just Give Me Five Minutes”, is a powerful way to keep yourself moving forward on days when you just don’t feel super motivated. Tomorrow, together, we’ll take away any potential for guilt or thinking you’re just not good enough, or the thoughts of “I guess I just didn’t want it bad enough”, by talking a little about the Accomplishment Equation.
