Just Curious. Do You hear the plan?
(long post) "Trump-backed Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or the SAVE America Act, seeks to address the president's longstanding demands to "fix" U.S. elections that he says are "rigged" and "stolen," despite no evidence of widespread voter fraud. I read this, just published in an op ed on wed Feb 10th, "( Barajas, 2026) Ok , powers- that- be are moving beyond the signature as a value ladder to be snatched. I see strange movings and wonder if our community is up for the challenge. Our youth have been denied one the most ancient representations of education. For 30 years, handwriting, cursive script and the related skills owned by those who scribe or write for learning and retention have taken back seat to AI and computing. A whole generation are now ignorant to cursive script, can not create, not read nor understand it. What they put on paper in schools now is frightening. They seem not to feel the need that has driven so many before them... to maintain that level of intellectual self knowledge. I hear the drumbeat!!! Rumblings now hint at voter registration interruption and consequent denial. Three states in 2024 elections denied thousands their voting rights because they could NOT create a cursive signature. Look at how we started 2025. Now, I understand that it is a local choice to determine if a signature must be cursive. Print and/or the general MARK have been accepted in many locations. This year, 2026 credentialing is the buzz. Passports and birth certification seem like easy preps, except that a great many have changed names, altered identifications or lost track of birth certificates. As for the passport, many have never owned or maintained possession of a passport. Now that government has been slashed, some regular services take twice as long as years gone bye. What is setting up for a last minute rush for credentialing could be the undoing of half the USA voters. An additional drain for our dollars.
What Is the Value of a Signature?
Do you place a value on your signature? At first glance, a signature may seem like a relic—an elegant flourish from a slower time. Most people think of a signature as the cursive script hand written for a a person's name. Many young people today type their names, tap a screen, or accept an auto-generated font as “good enough.” After all, we live in a digital world. So the question arises: does a handwritten signature still matter? How do you answer the question? Is a signature more than a just a name? Your signature is one of the first legally recognized acts of adulthood. It signals intent, responsibility, and authorship. Signing your name says I agree, I understand, I am accountable. It is personal, distinct, and binding in ways a typed name is not? Yet an increasing number of youth and young adults cannot read cursive well enough to recognize their own name when written in cursive by others—let alone produce a consistent signature themselves. This gap is not just academic. It has real-world consequences. As we being monthly and weekly commentaries, I look forward to your input into the topics. What do you think? I look forward to your opinions, anecdotes and stories about the value of a signature and why the cursive script. Please add your thoughts and invite the opinions of others to join the discussion here in our first of many commentaries in our Skool community.
