Object & Field Architecture —
While learning about Object and Field Architecture, I developed a strong understanding of how to design and structure data effectively within a system. I learned that before creating custom objects and fields, it is important to gather clear requirements from stakeholders and fully understand the business process. This includes identifying what information needs to be tracked, who will use the data, and how it will support decision-making and reporting.
I also learned how to determine when to create custom objects versus using standard objects, and how to choose appropriate field types such as text, picklists, dates, and lookups. Understanding relationships between objects, such as one-to-many and many-to-many relationships, helped me see how different data points connect and support business workflows. Additionally, I learned the importance of considering required fields, security, and reporting needs early in the design process.
One of the challenges I faced was deciding the best structure for objects without making the system too complex. It was sometimes difficult to determine which fields were truly necessary and which could be optional. Another challenge was understanding when to use lookup relationships versus master-detail relationships, as both impact how records are connected and managed.
My key takeaway from this learning experience is that planning is essential when designing object and field architecture. A well-designed structure improves data quality, supports automation, and makes reporting more effective. I also learned that keeping the design simple, scalable, and aligned with business needs is critical for long-term success.
