Today, I gained practical hands-on experience in managing and importing data into Salesforce using the Data Import Wizard. I learned how important clean, well-structured data is before migration, and how proper field mapping ensures records are imported accurately without errors.
As part of the exercise, I created a CSV file with alumni contact records, added custom fields like Graduation Year and Degree, and successfully imported all records into Salesforce. I also explored Matching Rules and Duplicate Rules, which helped me understand how Salesforce prevents duplicate records and maintains data integrity.
One of the most interesting parts was creating a report to analyse alumni by graduation year. It showed me how imported data can quickly be transformed into meaningful insights for decision-making.
The task was both exciting and slightly challenging, especially configuring the matching and duplicate rules correctly, but it became easier as I worked through each step. My biggest takeaway today is that successful data management isn’t just about importing records; it’s about ensuring accuracy, consistency, and long-term reliability of data.
