When You're Finally Off Duty, Are You Really Off Duty?
You finish a brutal week. Truck parked. Keys down. You're finally home. Then you grab the phone. One video becomes 20. One trucking rant becomes an hour of scrolling. Suddenly you're reading about freight rates, company drama, politics, accidents, driver arguments and everything else happening in the industry. You're physically off the road—but mentally, you're still driving. Here's the question for the community: What do YOU do that actually helps you switch from “truck mode” to “home mode”? Do you: 🚶 Take a walk? 🎵 Listen to music? 📵 Stay off social media? 👨👩👧 Spend time with family? 🎮 Play games or watch something? 😴 Just sleep and recover? Or are you one of those drivers who parks the truck but keeps arguing with strangers on Facebook for another four hours? 😂 What actually works for you? Share your off-duty routine. What Does “Good Home Time” Actually Mean to You?
We talk about local and regional trucking jobs like they automatically mean a better life at home. But is that really true? A job can technically get you home every day and still leave you too exhausted or frustrated to enjoy that time. Traffic, port delays, rail-yard waits, mountain driving, dispatch pressure, and unpredictable schedules can all change what “home daily” actually feels like. So here's the question: What matters MORE to you when choosing a trucking job? A. Being home every day B. Having a predictable schedule C. Making more money, even if you're gone longer D. Less stress, even if the paycheck is smaller E. Something else And if you've had a job advertised as “local” or “regional,” did the reality match the promise?
