The Spirit of Art

When I was about 13 I started writing because I heard it helped to deal with those angsty/depressing thoughts and feelings we tend to be introduced to as teenagers. I felt stupid writing my thoughts and wouldn’t tell anyone I was doing it, especially not when I started writing rap lyrics. I was embarrassed by that hobby and kept it very private for fear of judgement. But it helped a lot and got me through some tough times, just to have those conversations with myself. I always loved the challenge of reformulating a thought into a line that carried the emotion I was feeling.

What I didn’t realize at the time, but noticed as years went on, is that this form of self-therapy was teaching me who I am as an individual. Because each song was written to symbolize a different side of me - a different combination of feelings - and put together, I get a grander look at my whole self.

Eventually I realized it wasn’t just writing and music that served this purpose - this purpose of

“Knowing Thyself.” It was all forms of creative self-expression. Whether it was making videos or doodling or even playing sports and skating, we find ourselves through the styles we express ourselves with.

In all forms of creativity, it’s like we are creating our selves/our Spirit in a way we can look back at and understand more deeply! (:

So keep creating you, cause you are beautiful and there is more depth to be discovered than can ever be imagined!

I’ll share the last song I recorded a few months ago, it’s from the perspective of us all being one soul, split into our own respective bodies but forgetting we are one. It’s both an apology and love song, to and from, both me and everyone else hahaha it’s called 8.
