Solar Cross Stone Circle ⭕️

I was up on the mountain today working on a stone circle I have been making since winter solstice 2024. This land art installation is connected to the Solar Cross Calendar project, and made from local stones but also stones from 5 different continents collected in the past 6 years. (Loooong story for an other time 😉)

It’s aligned to North/South/East/West with a altar stone in the middle. All you really need to naturally measure time on this planet is to mark the sunrise or sunset on a given latitude of the equinoxes and solstices. If you know those spots on the horizon by using markers then you can know where you are in the year and the passage from one season to an other. That’s what many ancient structures did, like Stonehenge as one example. That is the Masculine structure of the Sun that doesn’t change from year to year. Then you can observe the lunar phases within the spaces between each equinox and solstice and mark the new and full moons to give you an pattern that you can follow for a even better understanding of where you are in time. That shifts from year to year and is more fluid that is the feminine aspect. That’s basically all you really need, and this is something we probably have done since the dawn of time for our species. The Solar Cross Calendar introduced a mathematical and geometric coherence to these natural celestial cycles to further clarify our understanding of time, by using numbers and geometry. This particular system I designed is not purely a solar calendar or a lunar calendar, its a coherent marriage of both. Its based on the concept of 13 months of 28 days, that was first introduced in 1902, but by cutting the 13th month into 4 individual months and placing each month on equinoxes and solstices, a geometric coherence emerges that mirrors the natural cycles that we observe in the sky and influence life on our planet. The last full moon before Spring Equinox is coming up on 3/3 and then natures new year is exactly one day after the next new moon. Im in the final stretch to finish up a coherent body of work of drawing, text and the land art installation as a solar observatory to mark solstices and equinoxes, for New Years day, that is Spring Equinox. Then the next stage will begin that will open it up to artist, astrologers, astronomers, philosophers, writers and who ever else feel like want to participate in this project. It was always meant to be a open source/ Creative Commons project this is not something that can be further developed just by me, that would be super narcissistic in my opinion.

This calendar is a “finger pointing to the moon”, it’s not about the finger it’s about the moon, what we really need for a new earth is a New Story that we tell ourselves, we have been sold a distorted story based on control and it’s running every off a cliff. It’s totally unsustainable and outdated. A calendar is just a framework that can help the emergence of a New story, in a symbolic and even practical way. If you think about it we are using a calendar system imposed by the Roman Empire and eventually exported all around the world through colonialism as a means of control to maintain the mechanisms of Empire. So subconsciously we are telling ourselves that we are the continuation of an archaic empire based on domination and control.
