Last week we talked about decision fatigue and how every choice you make today draws from the same limited tank of mental energy. By the time evening comes, there's often nothing left for the decisions that matter the most. So here's the follow-up: 𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵? I'm going to share with you a simple technique that I use, and it doesn't involve more thinking. It's called a congruence check. Here’s how it works: Bring the decision to mind and picture yourself having already made it. Where are you? How do you feel? What do you see, hear and smell? Now, before your brain starts building arguments for or against, notice whether your body feels open or feels tight. An aligned choice tends to feel expansive, even when it's a little scary. A choice you're talking yourself into usually shows up as tension somewhere specific, like your chest, stomach, jaw. This is not mystical or “woo-woo”, it's simply sequencing. Your nervous system processes information way faster than conscious reasoning does, and it flags conflict through sensation before logic catches up. If you override the signals often enough, then "the right choice on paper" turns into "the thing I dreaded doing". Why don’t you give it a try it today? Pick one decision you've been sitting on, run the check, and notice what your body already knows.
