Growth in 3 seconds

Hello everyone,

I hope you all have or had a wonderful Wednesday!

Over here in Switzerland it's raining and doesn't seem to get any different soon, so I'm happy to share some thoughts from my forest walk a week ago.

I was out as usual and honestly, I wasn't expecting to learn a new aspect of growth that day.

We know that growth takes time. Eric told us about the long game and while we gain valuable insights in the blink of an eye, it's not all about quick wins.

Now let me ask you this:

How much does a tree grow in 3 seconds? While I don't know this specifically, I'll tell you how much the whole forest in Switzerland grows in 3 seconds in just a minute.

I was walking through the forest and spontaneously decided to go down a path I never went before. I didn't even know where this will lead me... After a while I spotted a wooden hut and once I passed by, I not only saw an exit, but a sign. It's in German, but I'll attach it and the message that grabbed my attention is this:

Every 3 seconds the whole forest in Switzerland grows 1 cubic meter of fresh new wood.

I tried to imagine that... 1 cubic meter is something. I could build some fun things with the kids from it - and it's heavy, that's for sure.

Looking at all the trees, it doesn't seem they're growing so fast, but the sum of them all. 🤔

My conclusion was, that this is actually a really nice picture.

These big old trees don't "just happen to be there" all of a sudden. They actually might be there for longer than I am. And as long as they are healthy, they are growing "every 3 seconds" contributing to something big.

Do we understand where we grew the last 3 seconds and what the bigger picture looks like?

Do we see how the small steps, the mini-decisions bring us closer towards creating something big, something valuable?

As you may know, I do like creating songs and I won't say it's the best I made, but I tried to put this picture in a song as well. Maybe it helps someone to remember, reflect and purposefully see the own growth in as little as 3 seconds 😉.
