Sometimes the best way to explain Mushin Wellbeing® is simply to let someone who attends tell you what it has done for them. One of our Swindon members recently shared this after five months of attending Mushin Wellbeing®: “I have arthritis in my knee, which had affected my mobility and made everyday movements such as walking, bending my knee, getting up from the floor and balancing difficult. Since starting Mushin, I have noticed a real improvement in my mobility. I can bend my knee more easily, my balance has improved, and I feel more confident in what my body is capable of doing. What I love about Mushin is that it isn’t about how much you can do or trying to keep up with everyone else. The movements can be adapted to suit your individual needs. Mushin has given me the confidence to keep moving despite having arthritis and has shown me that exercise doesn’t have to mean jumping around or doing high-impact movements to make a difference. After five months, I can genuinely feel the benefits.” And that, for me, is the beauty of Mushin Wellbeing® It is deliberately simple. Think of some of the principles and gentle, flowing movement associated with Tai Chi, but developed into a system that is much easier to learn, easier to practise and, importantly for where we’re going next, easier to teach. Mushin can be adapted to the person in front of you. It supports movement, mobility, balance, coordination and confidence, all of which can play an important role in helping people remain active, maintain their independence and reduce the risk of falls. Classes in Swindon and Mushin Wellbeing® sessions delivered in other parts of the UK over the years have already shown us just how much potential there is in this simple approach to movement and wellbeing. Now we’re ready for the next chapter. In early 2027, I will be launching the Mushin Wellbeing® Coach Programme. Through a combination of online learning and face-to-face practical training, people will be able to train towards becoming qualified and licensed Mushin Wellbeing® Coaches, with continued support from the Mushin Wellbeing® team.
