Hello, Nimiq community! 👋
This is my first post here, and I’m excited to share an idea I’ve been developing. It doesn’t have a name yet, as NimiqPools feels more like a placeholder. Itwill come as the project takes shape—but its central purpose is becoming clear.
Every major tournament seems to create the same ritual: a group of friends starts a prediction game, then ends up using group chats, polls, spreadsheets, cash, and one very patient person calculating all the points manually. 😅
I’m exploring a miniapp that could bring that entire experience together: a private sports competition for friends, built around Nimiq.
💙 The Nimiq idea
One challenge for many payment-based miniapps is that they only work smoothly when everyone involved already uses the same app.
Instead of trying to avoid that dependency, this concept would make it the starting point: the experience would be designed for groups that join together using Nimiq Pay or Nimiq wallets from the beginning.
That turns onboarding from an individual problem into a shared group experience.
🎮 How it could work
A group of friends would choose a sport or competition. Possible future starting points could include the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and NBA.
From there:
- Teams would be organized into tiers and distributed randomly and evenly among the participants.
- Each competition would have its own scoring system, rewarding events such as wins, goals, three-pointers or other sport-specific achievements.
- The app would highlight when the teams assigned to different friends face each other.
- Groups could add an optional friendly stake, giving everyone something extra to play for.
The objective is to turn matches people already enjoy into smaller competitions inside their friend group—with more tension, more banter and a little extra spice. 🌶️
⚔️ Rivalries on every matchday
Imagine opening the app and seeing that one of your teams is playing against a team assigned to your friend.
Suddenly, a match you might not have followed closely becomes personal. Every real fixture can create a new rivalry inside the group, while rankings and points keep the wider competition alive throughout the season or tournament.
🌍 Why it could fit the Nimiq ecosystem
In the broader vision, a wallet would be more than a way to send or receive a payment—it could also represent each participant inside the competition.
Because the group joins together, the project could introduce several friends to Nimiq through a shared experience they already understand and enjoy. Once Nimiq becomes familiar within the group, using it together in other situations may feel more natural too.
🚀 Where the idea is today
I talk with some people that are currently having a pool in the Word Cup and the seems interested if a version like this exist for UEFA Champions League, so that´s my goal for the MVP.
For now, I want to share the central idea without going too deeply into technical or implementation details. I would love to connect with other developers, learn from the ecosystem and hear honest feedback from the community.
Does this feel like a natural experience for Nimiq Pay? Which sport or competition would your group want to try first?
