This is quite late but oh well...
This weekend I was competing at WCOM at my home pool. However, because the pool has been broken so much, and this meet was postponed from November and one was cancelled end of March (due to the pool both times), nobody entered. It literally felt like club champs but with a few extra people π€¦ Thankfully, they have come up with a solution so we are back to long course training and racing now. I swam 3 race Saturday, 3 races Sunday.
Saturday:
100 backstroke - 1:15.70
Not brilliant, but I never swim 100 back and so didn't really know what I was doing. I wasn't too worried about it though.
100 breaststroke - 1:23.52
I would have liked to have gone quicker, but I had just got out of my 100 back. Like I said, quiet meet so nobody there. Genuinely, I got out of the backstroke, got dressed in marshalling, did a quick bit of skipping and then swam again π
π€¦
Take aways: I didn't have a panic attack even though I was nervous, and I held my technique really well.
200 IM - 2:41.51
This was horrendous for me. I had a mild panic attack, backstroke was awful, freestyle I just couldn't get going on. The breaststroke was actually decent for me in it, but everything else was super off so it didn't really make much difference. For context, pb is 2:36, and I swam better than this weekend at nationals, and my IM wasn't great there either.
Learning of the day: I had had a really heavy week in school - loads of tests, loads of tests back. This was then combined with training, which although easier still required commitment. This week I'm trying to have more of a chill time before the weekend.
Sunday:
200 back - 2:37.07
This was a pb!!! Previous pb was 2:37.38. I swam a really good race, and came back really well on the last 50. I felt so much better than Saturday before this one - I went home on Saturday and slept for an hour in the evening, before then sleeping all through the night π
50 free - 29.78
My first official long course sub-30!! I've did a 29 at least twice in a relay last season, but never officially. Whenever I raced it as an individual, I'd go like a 30.1 or something. I had a really good start, and won my heat from lane 2 tied with one of my friends!! This is one the I never race, so I just tried to swim fast π€·
200 free - 2:17.55
Super happy with this! At Easter Nationals I swam a pb of 2:17.30 in the final, and I was only 0.25 of a second off in a race at the end of the day with no atmosphere! I paced it really well, but my coach wants me to go out faster so we're trying that this weekend!
Overall I'm quite pleased with how this one went. Ready to go again on Saturday! Sorry this was long as usual....
