Welcome Newcomer!
Welcome to The Village of Medieval STUFF. If you're looking to start a new trade, you'll want to check out The Village Market (Classroom). It's a fairly new settlement, so naturally we're still working on building the essentials. Soon enough we'll have the Tavern (calendar) built, where you'll be able to attend some Village Functions and meet the rest of the folk (members). Until then, feel free to introduce yourself around, tell us a bit about your skills and interests and someone will be able to lead you in the right direction. ... and make sure to wipe your shoes (if you have them). The pigs don't have a sty yet, and they've been leaving "presents" all over ..... 🐷
Welcome Newcomer!
Stinging Nettle Textiles - Step..... i lost count
This weekend (probably Sunday) i'll be recording the next step in processing stinging nettle as a textile; The Hackle The hackle is a board with big spikey metal teeth used for combing the fiber after all the excess material has been removed. Last video showed me using a Flax Break to accomplish this. The hackle also combs the fibers straight, and pulls out tangles and bits that are too small for spinning, called TOW. I'm planning on recording this as an impromptu live. I'll let everyone know earlier in the day around what time so you can feel free to join in if you're not busy. After this step, the nettle fiber will be ready to spin. I'll be finger spinning this fiber, and will do another video on that process to add to the classroom. If you are interested in learning more about Stinging Nettle as a textile, please check out Sally Pointer's YouTube Channel... She is responsible for me going down this rabbit hole. 😁
Nettle Fiber - Part 2
I've uploaded the second video in the Nettle Fiber process to the classroom. You can view it here. In this video I'm doing a demonstration at Duncan's Faire on using a Flax Break on Nettle Fibers to remove the excess plant material and expose the fibers. Enjoy!
Duncan's Faire
I'm vending this weekend at a small medieval faire, so i thought I'd share some pictures.
