Stinging Nettle Textiles - Step..... i lost count
This weekend (probably Sunday) i'll be recording the next step in processing stinging nettle as a textile;
The Hackle
The hackle is a board with big spikey metal teeth used for combing the fiber after all the excess material has been removed. Last video showed me using a Flax Break to accomplish this.
The hackle also combs the fibers straight, and pulls out tangles and bits that are too small for spinning, called TOW.
I'm planning on recording this as an impromptu live.
I'll let everyone know earlier in the day around what time so you can feel free to join in if you're not busy.
After this step, the nettle fiber will be ready to spin.
I'll be finger spinning this fiber, and will do another video on that process to add to the classroom.
If you are interested in learning more about Stinging Nettle as a textile, please check out Sally Pointer's YouTube Channel... She is responsible for me going down this rabbit hole. 😁
