Welcome to Matchday Content Hub 👋
I'm Stuart Bannerman, I run Up North Productions, and for the last 9 years I've been filming grassroots and non-league football matches: highlights, reels, full-match footage, livestreams. I built it from zero into something that actually pays, and this community is where I share how I do all of it. It's for you if you want to film local football and turn it into an audience and an income — whether you've never picked up a camera or you're already filming and want to grow faster. One thing to get out of the way: don't worry about "giving away your edge." This game is local. Someone filming in Devon is no rival to someone up north — we all win by getting better together. So share freely, ask anything. Two things to do right now: 1. Say hello in Introduce Yourself — where you're based and where you're at with your filming. 2. Post a clip in Footage Feedback — even a quick phone-filmed one. We'll help you level it up. Glad you're here. Let's make some great football content.
LET'S SETTLE THIS…
What actually makes a grassroots football video go viral? Is it: An unbelievable goal A funny moment on the touchline A crazy comeback Good commentary Fast-paced editing A strong hook in the first few seconds The emotion after the final whistle The story behind the match I've seen simple grassroots clips outperform videos that clearly took hours to edit. So here's the challenge: Post ONE football clip you've seen that you think deserved way more views. It doesn't have to be your own. Then tell us what made it good and what you think could have made it perform even better. Let's see if we can figure out what actually makes grassroots football content stand out.

This was one of the windiest games I have EVER filmed!
On Saturday, I filmed my latest match for my Up North Productions YouTube channel and social media pages. I live streamed the game as well...although the stream went live just before kickoff, rather than 10 minutes before as planned! The reason? The wind and weather! It was a nightmare to get set up! It also didn't help that I was told the match was taking place on one of the grass pitches, when it was actually being played on the artificial pitch nearby! So I had to take the tower down and get set up in the right place! It was a tricky day to film, the camera was moving around quite a lot because of the hurricane! (well it wasn't actually a hurricane, but it felt like the tower was going to blow away at times!) It was quite a big game. 1st v 2nd in the Mid Lancs Football League Division 2, Preston City v Lancaster Red Rose FC. I did think it would be closer than it was, but I got some fantastic footage, and some of my reels have gone viral! I will explain in my classroom very soon how I choose those clips, and how I do it... But for now, you can watch the match highlights video below👇

This is the place to shout about your wins, big or small 🎉
First match filmed. First 100 followers. First time a club asked you to come back. First payout. First clip that did numbers. Whatever it is — post it here. We celebrate the lot. No win's too small. The bloke who films his first wobbly match deserves the same cheer as someone landing their first paid booking. Let's build each other up.

What gear do I actually need to start?
The most common question I get: "what do I need to start?" Short answer — less than you think. You do not need a £4,000 camera. When you're starting, what matters is a stable, high, wide shot that follows the play, filmed at 60fps so the motion's smooth. That's it. What are you all working with at the minute? Drop your setup below — camera, tripod, whatever you've got — and if you're thinking of buying, ask before you spend. Cheaper to ask here than to waste money on kit you don't need.
