You can’t steer a parked car…
I used to think I needed the whole plan figured out.
Every step mapped.
Every potential problem solved.
You know what happened?
Nothing.
I’d sit there and think while other people would actually build something.
Travis says “You can’t steer a parked car”
And he’s right.
With how busy I am I sometimes lose clarity on the bigger picture.
And when that happens I usually fall back into steering my parked car (or trying to… it never works).
Over time I’ve wasted days, weeks, if you add it all up probably even months trying to figure everything out before just doing the damn thing.
Analyzing every possible outcome.
Trying to cross bridges that don’t even exist yet and maybe never will.
While making zero progress.
You don’t need to see the entire staircase.
You just need to take the first step.
Then the next one.
Then the one after that.
And as you move the path will reveal itself to you.
Each step shows you more than the planning ever could.
When things aren’t going my way or I “fail” it always comes back to this.
When I won Travis’s first Ronin affiliate contest I just took the steps everyday. I was relentless.
When I’ve had success selling my own solutions to my own audience I just took the steps. There was no plan. Just showing up with consistency every day and figuring it out along the way.
The doing teaches more than the thinking ever can.
Planning feels safe.
It feels like progress.
But after having a certain bare bones plan it’s not.
Progress is almost always messy action not perfect planning.
So if you’re like me. And you’ve fallen into overthinking.
Take one step today.
Not a planning step. A real step.
You’ll figure out step two when you get there.
Thats how I’m gonna get where I’m going.
One step at a time.
