SKAG: Single Keyword Ad Groups
1. What is it?
  • Definition: SKAG is a strategy where you create an Ad Group that contains only one single keyword.
  • Structure: 1 Campaign → Many Ad Groups → 1 Keyword per Ad Group → 1 Specific Ad.
2. How it Works (Using the Image Example)
Instead of putting all "Electrician" keywords in one group, you split them up:
  • Ad Group 1: Keyword is Electrician Near Me. The Ad Copy says: "We're around the corner."
  • Ad Group 2: Keyword is Emergency Electrician. The Ad Copy says: "24/7 Emergency Service."
  • Ad Group 3: Keyword is Local Electrician. The Ad Copy says: "$49 Off Call Now."
3. Why use SKAGs?
  • Maximum Relevance: The ad matches the user's search exactly.
  • Higher Click-Through Rate (CTR): People are more likely to click because the ad shows exactly what they searched for.
  • Higher Quality Score: Because relevance is high, Google rewards you with a better score.
  • Lower Costs (CPC): A higher Quality Score leads to paying less for each click.
Important Consideration
While SKAGs give you total control, they can take a long time to set up and manage if you have thousands of keywords. Modern Google Ads AI (like Responsive Search Ads) has made SKAGs less "mandatory" than they used to be, but they are still great for your most important keywords.
