My Experience With Mirroring (I Didn’t Know It Had a name)
I wanted to share something personal today. When I graduated back in 2015, I didn’t continue my studies. Instead, I went to a madrassa and during that whole period, one thing I was very conscious about was not losing my English, whether speaking or writing.
So I made a habit of talking to myself in front of the mirror. I would interview myself, pretend I was giving a winning speech, or just practice random conversations. It felt funny sometimes, but it helped me maintain a certain level of fluency even when I wasn’t studying in a formal environment.
I still have a long way to go, but Alhamdulillah, I can communicate confidently today because of this small practice. And recently I learned that this technique is actually called mirroring! So I thought I should share it here maybe it can help someone else too.
If you’re working on your English, try it. It really does make a difference.
