Another meaning: In daily American English, “check out” can also mean to leave a hotel or finish paying at a store. You'll hear this when someone is leaving a place after staying or shopping there.
Note:
  • In stores, people usually say “check out at the counter.”
  • In hotels, they say “check out of the hotel.”
Examples:
  • We have to check out of the hotel by 11 a.m.
  • She checked out at the counter and headed straight home.
